The Nigerians Are At It Again. This Time Through Craig's List

As some of you know, I live in southern California where we pay what we call here, "Sun Tax." That means our cost of living is a little bit pricier than other places. One of the highest priced things is housing. For a small POS 2 bedroom shack that is within 5 miles of the beach, you are looking somewhere in the area of 200-300 thousand dollars. The same place in my home town of Conifer Colorado would probably only be $75-100 thousand.

Anyway, the point I am making is that housing isn't cheap here so when my wife found a nice two bedroom town home near Del-Mar to rent for a little over $1000 per month on Craig's List, we were certainly interested. My wife decided to email the owner for more information.

Of course, when things sound too good to be true, they usually are. Here is the email my wife received from the owner...IN NIGERIA!

I am Dr Jeff Mark, the owner of the house you are interested in.Actually I resided in the house with my family, presently we had packed due to my transfer from my working place and now situated in the,Nigeria for a program called "Empowering Youth to Fight Racism, HIV/AIDS, Poverty and Lack of Education, and presently my house is still available for rent for $1000 (per Month) including the utilities like hydro, washer, electricity and security,it is furnised.

Moreso Now,I have been Transfered to West Africa,Nigeria and i will like you to get in touch with me for more discussion as with the keys and the document to the house.Pls i want you to note that,i am a kind and honest man and also i spent alot on my property that i want to give you for rent,so i will solicit for your absolute mentenance of this house and want you to treat it as your own,is that taken,it is not the money the main problem but want you to keep it tidy allthe time.

N.B:- Note that i am in West Africa and will not be able to show you the house so the pictures of the house is below the address and the mode of payment will be through WESTERN UNION MONEY TRANSFER only.

Needless to say, we aren't going to wire any money to this fool. Pretty clever though. Besides email, what other scams coming out of Africa have you seen? Hit me up in the comments.
