This will be my final recovering passwords post for a while I think. I have milked poor NirSoft long enough. Damn they have cool tools though right?
Anyway, in this final post I will tell you about a tool to recover forgotten PST passwords. This tool works on just about all versions of Microsoft Outlook. That is awesome because we have all had that user call and tell us that they forgot the password to the PST file they created three months ago, and now they need a particular email right away or it is career ending!
This NirSoft tool is called PstPassword. Here is a description from the site:
"PstPassword is a small utility that recover lost password of Outlook .PST (Personal Folders) file. This utility can recover the PST passwords of Outlook 97, Outlook 2000, Outlook XP, Outlook 2003, and Outlook 2007. You don't have to install MS-Outlook in order to use this utility. You only need the original PST file that you locked with a password"
Another cool thing about this tool is that it doesn't require installation, so you can carry it around on your USB Stick, and take it with you wherever PST's need their passwords cracked!
