It is something straight out of Orwell's 1984 novel. Something that my friends and family give me crap about whenever I talk about it. I'm talking about our slow, but sure loss of liberty here in the United States under the disguise of national security. This most recent post is about the FBI's latest project which they began in 2005 called the Next Generation Identification (NGI) program which is basically a network of surveillance cameras put in place all over the United States that provides facial recognition back to the feds.

From RT.com:

The NGI Program Office mission is to reduce terrorist and criminal activities by improving and expanding biometric identification and criminal history information services through research, evaluation and implementation of advanced technology within the IAFIS environment.

Well thank God for that! I mean now we are going be safe from terrorists and criminals thanks to this great tool that us regular Americans shouldn't have to be concerned about... Or should we? The article continued by saying:

During a 2010 presentation made by the FBI’s Biometric Center of Intelligence, the agency identified why facial recognition technology needs to be embraced. Specifically, the FBI said that the technology could be used for “Identifying subjects in public datasets,” as well as “conducting automated surveillance at lookout locations” and “tracking subject movements,” meaning NGI is more than just a database of mug shots mixed up with fingerprints — the FBI has admitted that this their intent with the technology surpasses just searching for criminals but includes spectacular surveillance capabilities. Together, it’s a system unheard of outside of science fiction.

How soon can you expect your face to show up in an FBI database? Very soon! The FBI has reported that as of July that the NGI program is already 60% deployed. What can you do about it? A few things according to the hacktivist group Anonymous. The following video gives you several ways of avoiding facial recognition surveillance:

Am I the only one bothered by this kind of "Big Brother" action from the Government? I really don't think this is the kind of Government the founding fathers intended. Tel me what you think about this in the comments.
